Distinguishing Features: Ones wore an eye-patch covering his missing left eye but this is since restored, he also has a tattoo of the Midnight Sons dagger that stands as a sign for his membership.
Powers: The ability to tap this universe's infinite store of ambient magical energy and manipulate these to a variety of effects. A skill derived from three major sources: personal powers of the mind/soul/body, powers gained by tapping the universe's ambient magical energy and employing it for specific effects and finally, powers gained through the tapping of extra-dimensional energy by invoking entities or objects of power existing in mystical dimensions tangential to his own. The latter means of power is usually gained by the recitation of incantations.
As Sorcerer Supreme of Earth Doctor Strange possesses a greater knowledge and mastery of the mystic arts than anyone else on Earth. He was born with a great talent for sorcery, and he has fulfilled that potential through long years of study and training.
Some of these effects include forming magical energy bolts with a high degree of potency and control. Erect energy shields or screens with a high degree of imperviousness to both physical and magical damage.
The art of astral projection, the mental ability to separate the astral self-the sheath of the soul, or life essence-from his physical self, and in this form traverse through space unbounded by physical laws but fully retaining human consciousness. The astral form is invisible, intangible, and incapable of being harmed except by the most rigorous of mystical means. The astral form only possesses those magical powers residing in the sorcerer's mind: thought casting, psychokinesis, etc. He has such mastery that he can remain in astral form for up to 24 hours and even more before there is corporeal deterioration of his physical form. The physical form is quite vulnerable to attack when the astral form is absent. If harm were to befall the physical form while in astral form, the astral form would be stranded in the wraith-like state. While the astral form is absent, the physical form remains in an inert death-like trance.
Thoughtcasting over short or vast distances in a manner virtually identical with telepathy. The entire Earth is within the reach of Strange's mind, providing he knew where to contact the specific mind he is seeking. He can simultaneously communicate with more than a dozen minds at a time.
Utilizing local magical energy to teleport across the face of the Earth or into a mystical dimension (certain higher dimensions beyond height, width, depth, etc. where the physical laws can be based on magic rather than science). Oddly enough, teleportation within a dimension is more taxing than teleportation between dimensions. Such expenditure of energy leaves all sorcerers mystically debilitated for a varying length of time, making teleportation a dangerous and seldom used ability. Physical teleportation across time rather than space is the most power-draining feat of them all.
Stephen Strange has a vast knowledge of sorcerous spells and incantations invoking the names and aspects of various extra-dimensional objects and beings of power. Through these incantations the mage is able to call upon these extra-dimensional power sources for very specific effects without taxing the personal abilities.
Abilities: Doctor Strange has a good knowledge of various Oriental martial arts. He also possesses considerable medical knowledge.
A large part of his abilities are enlarged and/or contrived from these artifacts. The Cloak allows Strange to levitate and fly without the need of levitation spells. The Eye can penetrate disguises, invoke images of the recent past, track both physical and mystical beings, probe minds more easily and can serve as a gateway to other dimensions.
History: After his graduation he became a brilliant, ambitious, and somewhat arrogant neurosurgeon. He became more distant, more cynical as the years went by. When his dad died, two years after his mom, it took him two days to return Victors call saying he was in the hospital. He felt guilty but it would've passed, just like it always had before.
A few days later his brother stood at his frontdoor. Stephen never went to his fathers buriel that was the day before and he made exuses against his brother only now. That night Stephen was with some girl and when Victor saw her he stepped out the door, real angry. It was snowing and Vic didn't look where he was going. The car hit him with full force. Stephen had to pronounce his own brother dead. Wracked with grief he figured that this time he could buy his way out of the burden of guild by freezing his brothers body. Hoping that one day medical science would bail him out. He didn't thust himself enough not to touch the money that kept Victor's freezer going so he placed that money in an untouchable trust fund.
Not long afterwards his meteoric medical career was tragically cut short in an automobile accident. In this accident Strange sustained minor nerve damage, which prevented him from holding a scalpel steadily enough to perform delicate surgery. Although he was offered a prestigious consultant's position, Strange's pride prevented him from accepting. He invested his fortune on attempted cures and fraudulent doctors and saw it dwindle to nothing. He swiftly degenerated from recluse to drifter to drunken derelict. Then Strange heard talk of a learned man in Tibet known only as the Ancient One who could supposedly work miracles.
Determined to find this miracle man, he made his way across the ocean and then the frozen wastes of the Himalayan Mountains. Just when he reached the limits of his endurance, he stumbled upon the Ancient One's palace. The aged sorcerer told him he would only consider helping Strange if he proved himself worthy. Refusing to fully believe in the Ancient One's magic anyway, Strange remained as a guest while a bitter storm spent itself outside. He soon discovered that the Ancient One's pupil Baron Mordo was plotting to kill his master. Trying to warn the master of his pupil's treachery, Strange was discovered by Mordo and mystically restrained. Witnessing Mordo's power and learning of his murderous intent shocked the jaded Strange into a realization of the nature of evil and the necessity to combat it. Eventually Strange sought a way to get around Mordo's spell by sincerely offering to become the pupil of the Ancient One himself. The sorcerer freed Strange of the restrickting spell and admitted that he knew of Mordo's true nature all along. But having peered into Strange's soul, he saw the potential for great goodness and power.
Thus, Stephen Strange became the Ancient One's disciple and learned the secrets of sorcery. He stayed for several years in Tibet with the Ancient One. Aside from the mystic arts also developing his body and learning the ancient martial arts of Kamar-Taj. When the day came for the pupil to leave and restart his own life the Ancient One pointed him to a special Victorian-style house on Bleecker Street in bohemian Greenwich Village in New York City.
He was regarded by the world at large, which did not believe in magic, as an eccentric and a charlatan. Only thinking of him as an eccentric occult authority. But in fact he acted as mankind's point man, the sole defender of humanity from perils it did not imagine existed.
In this guise he fought his first battles against Baron Mordo and Nightmare.
But this didn't mean their troubles were over... They were attacked by the Cult of Sattanish. When the leader of this cult went public, he wore the illusion of Strange's face. This resulted in the fact that Strange wasn't able to show his real face in public again. So he decided to start wearing a mask and gloves. He also needed a new name, cause his real name was public knowledge.
In time he found a way to redeem himself so he could use his old name again. Life went back to normal...
During one of these fights he encountered Death herself. She tested him and Strange was proven worthy. This ordeal made Strange just as immortal as the Ancient One always was, who lived for more than 500 years. Each time he would be in mortal danger the eternal sign of life, the Ankh, would appear on his forehead and he would go through this ordeal again.
His teacher in this art became his former enemy Kaluu. The use of black magic caused him his eye and he had to wear an eye-patch. Luckily it was magically restored by Agamotto with the left eye of Silver Dagger.
Around this time he married Clea according to the laws of the Dark Dimension by exchanging the two rings who are one.
There was a war on cosmic scale going on by the name of 'the war of the seven spheres'. All major magical deities were in this war. Strange was asked to be a magical footsoldier in this war by every deity he invoked for power.
Not wanting to be in this war (it was expected to last for a few thousand years) Strange renounced all abilities that came from invoking these deities through the Imancipation Incantation thereby losing almost all of his abilities. Naturally he would been rather useless in this war because he could only fight with the power of the mystical deities themselves.
Back to simple basic Earth magic he was forced to enlist help whenever he found out of one great mystical threat. So he created the Secret Defenders.
Without these powers he was unable to stop the Sorceress Salome, who saw the weakened state of the current Sorcerer Supreme the right time to destroy him and take over his title. She started with the destruction of his Sanctum. Than she tried to destroy Strange himself, but he escaped and build himself a new Sanctum underground.
It was time for him to gain other mystical sources. With a new source of magic, other than those mystical deities, he would be his own master and still be able to protect this planet against mystical threats. He created two ethereal beings able to represent him in the outher world... Doctor Stephens to take over all matters of Stephen Strange, and Strange to search out all artifacts that could channel Earthly magic. Those artifacts he would use in order to make a mystical funace that would make it possible to tap into a source of magic that would be Earth-bound.
When he came out of hiding, his hair had grown and he reshaped his cloak to fit more with his new costume, he made it resemble a trench coat. The rest of his costume was now made of ethereal energy. Because he lived in the dark for quite some time he started wearing sunglasses.
Things had changed... Strange had begun deriving his abilities from the Gaian Aura, the magical field emanating from the planet itself. As a result from these new powers he also, accidentally, became obscenely rich.
Then the Vishanti came back. Now wielding his own independent source of magic Strange couldn't refuse again. He still had a debt to pay... and they threatened to destroy him if he refuse to join them in the War of the Seven Spheres for a second time.
During the War, that lasted for centuries, Strange exhausted the Gaian Aura. Now left completly helpless the Vishanti transported him back to Earth, at Strange's request only four months after he left.
The powers of the Vishanti made sure he aged only a year in their service.
On his return he bought a new house at Bleeckerstreet. During the war he had spent quite some time in the libraries of the Vishanti and found out a new scource of occult potential from which he could derive power. Using the knowledge from the Vishanti's library he fashioned an incantation. He mastered the catastrophe magic: the power of change.
With his new powers he went for a new look. He cut off the long hair and left a small beard. The trench coat stayed also, but he transformed the model and he was wearing a highly decorated blouse.
He renounced that magic again when he found out that it was semi-sentient and not benevolent magic. He restarted to use chaos magic. With this magic he tried to stop the elder god Chthon from being born.
In the year that followed Strange helped out a lot of heroes. he fought the Architect with Elektra and stood by the Silver Surfer. At this time he had transformed his cloak back to its original state.
Now back in full power and in his original garments. His old Sanctum Sanctorum completly restored.
As Sorcerer Supreme, life continues as usual. That is, if there was ever something usual about Doctor Strange... Sorcerer Supreme.
